Kiawah Island

And if you go look at Wikipedia, it's like, yeah, it's been around for over 100 years.

However, it really wasn't big until, gosh, you could say in Europe until the '80s, and in America really you could say that Kiawah in '91 was the first time it was really huge.

And so when we're talking about being here in 1993, 1994, what you have is the American golf ecosystem going, "Oh my God, the Ryder Cup's incredible." And so you could see where they would get in the mindset of let's try to duplicate, uh, that kind of thing in a new format, because this is absolutely like catching lightning in a bottle.

Even though it's been around by 60 years, we're just starting to notice it.

And, um, w- we were trying to debate whether we should do a Presidents Cup, have a Presidents Cup, as, as the Ryder Cup had gotten, um, pretty popular, successful.

You know, you had the War on the Shore there at Kiawah.

And not everybody was in favor of us doing the Presidents Cup, but we knew then that if the PGA Tour didn't take hold of this, it was going to IMG.

And as, you know, that was really the beginning of the international players coming over here, not just to play, but to live.

I wouldn't go near that water.

I've been at, uh, you know, down to Kiawah Island, played golf, and then they had either alligators or crocodiles.

And, and, you know, I'm with a guy, knucklehead, and he got a couple of beers.

He's walking over, and I go, I said, "Tom, don't do it." You know? I...

... which is where they make, they make the cheddar.

Same guys own Kiawah, I think Hilton Head.

Maybe.

Yeah.

Yeah, they're, they're from s- Charlotte, these guys.

South Street.

I've never been to Kiawah, but my, my favorite Kiawah story was after we did the Kisner match at Pinehurst with, uh, my guy Mr. Pashley, and we were sitting around the fire pit.

And we were all kind of gassing up Pinehurst and talking about it.

There's some really good golf there.

Obviously Kiawah's close by.

Uh, the country club at Charleston's just gone through a redo.

Um, it's just opened here this month.

I've been at some top courses, and I've had g- great ones, but I've had...

I mean, Kiawah comes to mind, Ocean Course.

We had a couple awful caddies there.

It was crazy.
