Of course, this was nowhere near the actions under Stalin, but Khrushchev truly despised religion.

In doing my research into today's episode, I was struck by how little Khrushchev wrote about the gulags and the Zex in his autobiography, Khrushchev Remembers.

What I discovered is that much of the reason is self-censorship.

Khrushchev wanted to present himself as the reformer who ended Stalin's terror, not someone deeply involved in the system.
