Khaybar

This works out.

There was a command that the Prophet ﷺ gave to his companions on their way to Khaybar.

This is after the Battle of Ahzab.

He said to them, pray Asr at Khaybar.

Now the journey goes and different things happen so that they basically, Maghrib time is coming.

They're nowhere near Khaybar.

So the companions then said, well, what do we do? The Prophet ﷺ said, pray Asr at Khaybar.

One group of companions said, he said that to indicate to us to be hasty, to hurry up, and we failed that.

Because during this Ghazwa, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he led the Sahaba in Salatul Khawf as well during the actual battle.

Now, when did Ghazwat al-Riqa take place? When? Many of the scholars of the Sira have said that this Ghazwa took place before Khaybar.

Now, you might find that strange because we're going like in a chronological order.

And we've already spoke about Khaybar over maybe eight sessions, haven't we? Right? And that's, it's over now.

We've come back from Khaybar.

The spoils of war has been distributed.

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam also married Safiyyah Radiallahu Anha as we spoke about in the last session.

But many of the scholars of Seerah have written and mentioned that it took place before Khaybar.

This is session one hundred and eighty-three in our series, Islam's Greatest Personalities, and part one hundred and thirty-one in the Sirah of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

Today's discussion is going to be about after Khaybar, and specifically the story of Sayyida Safiyya radiallahu ta'ala anha.

Now, in the Battle of Khaybar, amongst the females who were caught as captives, prisoners, one of them was Safiyya bint Huyay bin Akhtab.

Who was Huyay bin Akhtab? Huyay bin Akhtab was the leader of the Banu Nadir, the Yahud of Banu Nadir, a very big person, the chief of Banu Nadir.

His daughter is Safiyya, the daughter of Huyay bin Akhtab.

And Huyay bin Akhtab, as you know, was one of the greatest enemies of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

Safiyya herself was the wife of the leader of Khaybar.

So this is another link now.

It's a piece of land.

It was given to me as my share of the booty on the occasion of Khaybar.

What shall I do with it? He comes to the Prophet and says, what do I do with this piece of land? Now, the Messenger of Allah gave it in charity, the usual.

He says to him, no.

In the sunnah, Al-Qarīb and then Al-Mujīb were mentioned.

So in a hadith when the Prophet ﷺ were with a group of companions coming or going towards Khaybar, probably going towards Khaybar.

When the people were in a valley or on top of a mountain, they said Allahu Akbar and they screamed this Takbir.

Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah.

He said, it is very unlikely that Allah Ta'ala wouldn't have accepted his dua.

He said that Nabi SAW told Aisha many a times, I'm still feeling the pain and the inconvenience of the poison that was given to me by the Jewish woman in Khaybar.

So Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's apparent, I'm using the word apparent because I mean, at the end of the day, there was a determined date for Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam to pass away.

The apparent reason for it was the poison.

Allah knew what was in your best interest, O believers, that you yourselves did not know.

So before the vision was fulfilled by your entrance into Mecca, Allah granted you a victory close at hand, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, and following it, the conquest of Khaybar at the hands of the believers who had been present at Hudaybiyyah.

Huwalladhi arsala rasoolahu bilhuda wa deeni l-haqqi liyu dhhirahu 'ala d-deeni kullih.

Wa kafa billahi shahida.

Sayaqoolu l-mukhallafoon a idhan talaqtum ilaa maghaanima litakhuthooha dharoona nattabi'kum; yureedoona an yubaddiloo kalaam Allah; qul lan tattabi'oona; kathalikum qaal Allahu min qabl; fa sayaqooloona bal tahsudoonaanaa; bal kaanoo la yafqahoona illaa qaleelaa.

Those whom Allah caused to remain behind will say, "When you believers set out to take the spoils of Khaybar that Allah promised you after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, allow us to go with you so that we can receive a share of them." By making this request, those who remained behind want to change Allah's promise that He made to the believers after Hudaybiyyah, that the spoils of Khaybar would be given exclusively to them.

Say to them, O Messenger, "You will not accompany us to those spoils.

Allah has already promised that the spoils of Khaybar are specifically for those who were present at Al-Hudaybiyyah." They will then say, "Your preventing us from accompanying you to Khaybar is not a command from Allah.

Rather, it is because you envy us." But the matter is not as those who remained behind claim.

Rather, they understand very little of Allah's commands and prohibitions, and because of that, they fell into disobedience.

Laqad radiya Allahu 'anil mu'mineena iz yubayi'oonaka tahta l-shajarati fa 'alima maa fee quloobihim fa anzana l-sakeenata 'alaihim wa athabahum fat han qar eeba.

Allah was certainly pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you at Al-Hudaybiyyah in the Pledge of Ridwan beneath the tree.

We're discussing the Battle of Khaybar and this is part eight in the Battle of Khaybar.

And depending on how much time we have, inshallah, this could be the last session.

Well, I wouldn't say last of Battle of Khaybar because there were still some discussions which happened after, but we'll kind of look at it from a different topic and angle inshallah.

Again, all depending on how we do with the time inshallah.

So the battle is actually over now.

We've discussed the Battle of Khaybar over seven sessions.

The battle is over.

And that reduced the number of enemies from two to one.

The Muslims could now march on Khaybar.

Messenger of Allah decided to set out and ordered his companions to prepare immediately.

The Muslim army gathered at once.

The Prophet had learned of this situation.

And to prevent this aid, he made an offer to the Qatafan.

If they agreed not to help the Jews, they would receive the date harvest of Khaybar for one year after the conquest.

But they refused.
