I can't help but emphasize that, you know.

the the material on the album for me kind of gauges who it should be and i can't think of it needs to be someone who's well established in the doom kind of world and i was trying to think of some black sabbath producers you know who've worked with sabbath on some of their heavier stuff and you know most recently rick rubin but what did he actually do for those sessions uh is is kind of the question cape and kevin shirley um again you gotta work with the ingredients and who's gonna juggle The mess as such.

But again, there's an interesting Rodrigo, you know, commenting on the Aerosmith.

I still prefer bad recording Aerosmith to the new remix.

To get it into the mix, to make it so it's not in the way, but it's still fun to listen to, it's quite difficult.

Kevin Shirley's production in the future, I think, is actually more Damaged by Steve, in my opinion.

Whereas this is the first album he's done, and it's a bit like he's doing his own thing.

And I think it sounds pretty good.

Yeah, right? Yeah, exactly, yeah.

You can always do it cheaper, but it's better, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, and then, you know, they got Kevin Shirley, who is the producer from Moving On.

So he did, like, Silverchair, Aerosmith, Dream Theater, things like that, you know? So in the wheelhouse, you know? Yeah.

And they were made with the legends.

I mean, Kevin Shirley and Dave Cobb.

I mean, the amazing producers.

But those guys, they work fast.

And then as years, more years go by, you start to get to know people who really did work with him.

Nobody was covering Tim Curry's back catalog, and in fact, not too many people even knew he had a catalog at all.

Then, in the mid-2000s, Joe Bonamassa, who at that point was talented but still very much a working musician, not yet the arena-filling guitar hero he'd become, got a call from his producer, Kevin Shirley, who told him that he had found the perfect desperate blues song for Bonamassa's upcoming debut album, and it's this Tim Curry deep cut.

Bonamassa and his band cut a version of it.

They actually had to soften one of the lyrics because Curry's original had a little profanity in it that Bonamassa initially kept before deciding to change it, and it was released in 2007, not just as a track, as the title track.

But they went along because they're like, well, you know, maybe they know better.

Who knows? Kevin Shirley was the producer on that record.

He certainly had a track record of success.

And the record came out and it did not have the mainstream success that they had hoped for.

Big.

It was the first album that the original band got back in the studio with Kevin Shirley and put together since 1996's Hey Man featuring Paul Gilbert, Eric Martin, Billy Shane and the sadly departed Pat Torpey.

I was so lucky to see the band on this tour.

They toured extensively in the UK.

But the recording of Nine Lives was plagued with major personnel problems.

They fired their longtime manager, Tim Collins, and changed producers mid-project from Glenn Ballard to Kevin Shirley.

Yet, despite all the behind-the-scenes chaos, Nine Lives was very successful.

It sold double platinum in the United States.
