And I loved reading this, having already seen the real and kind of getting this other story.

It was around this era that Pastor Greg started preaching about the gifts of the Spirit, an umbrella term for certain magical powers that followers of Christ are alleged to be capable of, if they are good enough believers.

Some are not so remarkable, such as wisdom, knowledge, and faith, but others, like prophecy, channeling direct messages from God himself, sounded fascinating.

One such trick was known as speaking in tongues.

It's where you can speak in a language you've never learned, specifically the language of the heavens.

Pastor Greg said it was the language of the Holy Spirit and what the angels speak.

The Holy Spirit of Gifts of the Spirit fame was allegedly an entirely other entity from God and Jesus.

So how did you know that it would be a better choice for you to end that with Dean? As you said, it was not an easy decision.

The first half of it is my youthful coming-of-age story, all of the church stuff and figuring myself out.

But, uh, like, the final f- like, the third act of this book is present day, and when I started writing this book, I was going through a big old gay divorce.

Aw.

And, uh, you know, 'cause this little, this little creature is, like, sticking by me through all of this stuff.

So I start, you know...

And it feels like I'm going into entirely new timelines and worlds, but this little creature is, like, the one constant.

Um, so then after you went to, you, you know, you were in Nashville for a couple of decades doing music, how did you get into comedy?

That was at the, at the end of that story of me trying to play in a band and get a record deal, and we got really close.

It was, like, the final moment where we'd tried so hard, and it was just this, it was really heartbreaking, you know, after so much work, and it just wasn't working.

And one guy quit the band, then another guy quit, and then we were just done.

And I, at that point, I was like, "I need to start over." Like, I need to do something just wildly different, and I had always loved making people laugh.

Oh, you did? Good.

I did, yeah.
