Kettering

Hello, this is American Motherhood.

My name is Bethany and Haley is here with me to co-host as we interview Rose Lounsbury, who is the Democratic candidate for Ohio House District 36, which is in Montgomery County and covers downtown Dayton, East Dayton, Kettering, Oakwood and Riverside.

If you have the opportunity to vote for Rose, you are currently represented by Republican Andrea White, who is running for reelection.

Rose, we are so excited to talk to you today.

And so what that shows me is that I did a great job.

I knew I did a great job, but the results showed I did a really great job.

I moved the margins up for Democrats in many of my precincts, especially in the Kettering area.

Kettering is the largest area of my district.

We had heavy showers just like everybody else, but we don't really have any flooding issues in our neighborhood.

Not that I've ever really noticed, but my sister-in-law sent us a text and was like, Oh, my gosh, the cops in Kettering are telling people to stay off the roads because of flooding.

And, I mean, wow.

I wonder if anybody really encountered that.

So let me start out today's show with a story.

So I had this friend who I've known since third grade in Kettering, Ohio.

She was always a very like, let's just say very masculine girl.

We go way back.

Let's see.

Stephanie in Kettering.

Hey, Stephanie, how you doing?

I'm good.

She had dreams of working in the medical field, so academic stability was important to her and her parents.

Rebecca and Jessica moved from Kettering to Columbus in 1988 when Jessica was 13 years old.

They would now be closer to Rebecca's parents, George

and Ruth.

Her life became a lot more social, not just with girls, but also with the boys.

By the summer going into her sophomore year of high school, She spent time back home in Dayton with her dad and her sister and her old friends, and she could not stop talking about all the fun she was having with her new friends.

Sherry saw one of her friends from back in Kettering.

She felt a little uncomfortable with some of the things that Jessica was telling her.

A couple of things I gotta get into, uh, here at the very beginning.

Uh, one, a big shout-out to everybody I saw at the Kettering Holiday Home Parade on Monday.

I had the great privilege to sit in the back of, uh, Brady Kress's 1924 Model T, uh, with the giant Cheez-It in tow.

I sat in the back seat with the giant Cheez-It statue.

And then our youngest, John, is a senior this year at Kettering Fairmont.

Okay.

I know you said your youngest is studying electrical engineering? At

She was not my first editor, but she was very close to you.

So my first paper was the Kettering Oakwood Times, which Kettering, Ohio, southwestern Ohio, only notable because Irma Bombeck made her bones there before she took over the world with her columns.

And anyway... $15 a week, twice a week.
