We're going to visit four moments from American history when American democracy has expanded, contracted, realigned, been contested.

This is our chance to, of course, talk about some of the stories that we are most fascinated by, but also try and draw some through lines about how rights and democracy have expanded and contracted and been contested over time.

So we got a lot going on, but we're sort of living in times that require it.

Yeah, well, you are doing a lot.

We're on the pro-democracy side here at the Kettering Foundation, and I'd like to think myself on the side of justice and racial justice.

I am not religious, and I live in a pretty secular world.

Finally, as election officials across New Hampshire prepare for the September primaries, voters of all political backgrounds say they're increasingly concerned about election security.

A recent Gallup Charles F. Kettering Foundation poll reveals two in three Americans worry political leaders will work to change election outcomes, while more than half of respondents worry their ballot will not be properly counted.

Lisa Kovak with the New Hampshire Campaign for Voting Rights says while the Trump administration has spent years testing the electoral system's limits, voters should feel confident.

The structures that make a free and fair election possible in the United States are still strong, and the people who run our elections are really committed to doing their jobs.

Ramlagan reports.

A new Gallup-Charles F. Kettering Foundation poll finds more than 70 percent of Americans are worried about different parts of the election process.

According to poll results, 67% of respondents worry political leaders will pressure election officials to change election outcomes.

And 52% are concerned about people gathering near polling sites to intimidate voters or discourage them from casting ballots.
