If you can't convert your yardage into points and you can't, on the defensive side, which we'll talk about in just a moment, but if you kind of unravel an entire potential three-and-out series or a great stop by the defense with one bad play, yeah, it's going to prove costly if you're playing a more evenly matched opponent.

With the special teams critiques, you know, with Kerry Coombs, I'll give the fans a little ammo here.

It's less about the kicker because very few special teams coordinators are – Usually the kickers are getting their form looked at by kicking experts and people who have been kickers at this point.

Same with punting.

Yeah, I mean, they look more competent, question mark, than last year, but I'm still not even sure if J.B. Brown was a real person or not, or if his headset was even plugged in.

Kerry Coombs' special teams have not been very good.

The offense, he's been completely laissez-faire with all that.

And when there's a lack of success or something goes wrong, he's just kind of, and I feel like I'm repeating myself at this point, but he's just kind of like, despondent about it or just kind of like, yeah, that was pretty bad.

Yeah,

I mean, I don't think Kerry Coombs, I mean, obviously we haven't heard from him, but I imagine that, you know, you shake.

I'm pretty sure the kid just, you know, got the little bit of, you know, uneasiness shook out of him.

So I think he's probably going to be starting to Budkowski.

That is a great point.

I mean, you can clean the house as much as you want in terms of your staff, and obviously he brought virtually his own guys in outside of keeping Tony Alford and stuff, and keeping Kerry Coombs, who just got hired right before he got hired.

But the players are still infected with that toxic culture that was laid behind them, and You see it with the tight end tweeting about the coaches and it leaking.

There's just so many problems.

Yeah, so I, I anticipated a team that executed better.

I anticipated a team that was more disciplined, didn't commit as many penalties, especially with Kerry Coombs coming in.

I expected special teams would be better, and they honestly probably have been a little better than last year.

Um, the biggest thing to me in terms of what I had seen before was I've, I've been a huge Jason Beck fan.

And I'm not just talking this year, I'm talking final year or more, and you can go back to that, uh, first year or more.

Yeah, Kerry Coombs was supposed to have fixed the special teams, and let's be honest, if they had really good special teams in those two games they lost, they probably would've won.

If they hadn't given up a kick return or if Marsh hadn't fumbled, uh, in, at, against Minnesota when they went down and scored, uh, they probably win those games anyway.

You can get away with it sometimes ag- against mediocre competition if you're really good in two phases.

Uh, I know they mentioned him.

Uh, Kerry Coombs mentioned him earlier this off-season, uh, as someone who was gonna get some work.

They're looking for ways to get ... hider in space, uh, and maybe rip off one of those explosive plays.

The question there, he's just a freshman.

Yeah

... that's how Parker Fleming became a household name, and on the other, that's how Kerry Coombs helped build his reputation early on in his career at Ohio State.

There aren't a ton of people that have h- held that role, and some of that is by design.

There have been years where Ohio State was spreading around the responsibilities amongst the assistants.
