Kern River

Two weeks ago, I left the doctor and Billy in the Kings River Yosemite and set out for Mount Tyndall and adjacent mountains and canyons.

I ascended Tyndall and ran down into the Kern River Canyon and climbed some nameless mountains between Tyndall and Whitney and thus gained a pretty good general idea of the region.

After crossing the range by the Kearsarge Pass, I again left the Doctor and Bill and pushed southward along the range and northward and up Cottonwood Creek to Mount Whitney, then over to the Kern Canyons again and up to the new highest peak, which I did not ascend as there was no one to attend to my horse.

Thus, you see, I have rambled this highest portion of the Sierra pretty thoroughly, though hastily.

But

we're up in Kern River.

We're on Lake Isabella today.

I'm going to just call it and say this is the first podcast ever recorded on a boat on Lake Isabella.

Usually some yams or beans or like chickpeas, like seasoned, you know, just asparagus.

We did like a Kern River rafting trip one year where it was like a long weekend and it was...

The camp was put together by these people, this group, and they were all vegan.

It was all the stuff was

I was enjoying some Spanish Rioja, which is wine.

And then I opened up a Dirty Hippie from Kern River.

And now I'm going to open a beer that I found in the back of the fridge from

two radar paloozas ago.

I'm up against the Fontana Jam.

Kern River is this is the first one I've seen this year but Kern River's pumpkin is shipping so the pumpkin beers have begun shipping people They're coming.

They should have shipped out starting in August.

There's par marks on the side centered along the lateral line and large brown dark spots centered near the tail and on the dorsal and caudal fins.

The natural range, historically, it occupied about 450 miles of stream habitat in the upper South Fort Kern River and adjacent Golden Trout Creek.

The native habitat sits above 8,000 feet in streams and lakes where the water rarely gets above 60 degrees.

They're extremely cold water and oxygen dependent, which is part of why their range is so small.

And that's the adventure of life.

Like that's why things like a junkie car or, you know, going to the Kern River, whatever it might be, really resonates with you and resonates with me.

It's fun.

Yeah.

Long story short, when I was a young man, I worked on Windows NT at Microsoft and I worked on that first internet server, and the commerce server.

And, you know, like 20 years later, I thought, oh, I'll just start this timhuckaby.com thing and I'll see how technology has changed and I'll see if I can put up an e-commerce site and I'll write articles about the Upper Kern River, which I would call my home waters.

It's in the golden trout wilderness.

It's a magical place.

Totally fun.
