You know, that's something that we're missing nowadays, isn't it? Reid, in his programme notes, quotes the thing saying, well, I don't think Kenny Dalglish or Graham Souness are doing too badly.

so it used to be much more prevalent I mean maybe lower down there are a few player managers but it just doesn't happen anymore.

No it doesn't and yeah it's quite interesting I read somewhere that Reid was asked to take over as caretaker and he agreed to only do it for one game but then he wanted it permanently so I don't know why they didn't just do the deal there and then in terms of skip the caretaker part but like I spoke to David White about this for the book and he was saying that he was quite an obvious move for Reid at that time.
