Kennecott

My great-grandfather was Chief Nikolai.

Long before Americans developed the great Kennecott mines, native people knew that copper was there they used it they traded it my brother ron wrote a book about it called legacy of the chief the americans didn't discover copper in an empty wilderness they entered a place where people already knew about the copper The Americans just had bigger plans for that hole.

But this network didn't stop at the coastline.

But in Kennecott, it was 70% grade.

So 70% of the material that came up was usable copper.

So it was extraordinarily rich, like richer than any other copper mill out there.

Yeah.

Yep.

And so with that, they built a railroad that stretched 196 miles from Cordova to Kennecott to help transport the copper and other materials that were mined in the area.

And along this route, they built 129 bridges just because of how rugged the terrain was.

Mining is prohibited.

There's, you know, the copper mine that used to be the Kennecott mine has a streak of copper that goes down 6,000 feet.

Alaska is being held by a government that has been occupied by a foreign power that is now imposing controls on Alaska that are designed to wreck its economy.

And the Susitna springs forth from a glacier of the Alaskan Range.

The Copper River is fed by glaciers, and the railway, which goes through its valley, connecting the Kennecott Mines with the sea, passes between the Childs Glacier and the Miles Glacier on its way to Cordova.

Glacier Bay, only a short distance from the end of the Lynn Canal, is a body of water fifty miles long with more than half a dozen glaciers of enormous size sloping down to it.

The biggest is the Muir Glacier, named after John Muir, who discovered it.
