And then it's generally like people deciding that they would put him in a particular box as a particular person.

And so I really clearly remember the onset of the history wars and listening to the radio, like listening to PM and hearing Keith Windshuttle going on and going... well, that mosquito, he was just a criminal.

And I was like, no, he wasn't.

So I actually got quite a few good publications out of that.

So when you began to focus on Australian history and Australian historians bringing their work to a general public, to a wider audience, how did that unfold? Tell me, and the pleasure you got from doing that.

Well, one of the early books I published was by Stuart Macintyre, foremost Australian historian, no longer with us, and he, I asked him because there'd been all those arguments with Keith Windschuttle and Geoffrey Blainey about Australia, about, you know, colonial past, how we recognize that, what acknowledgement we give to the First Nations of Australia, and, and Stuart had been involved in those discussions.

But they had been really principally played out in the academy and in the Murdoch press.

And I thought it would be really important if could I persuade Stuart to write a book called The History Wars, and that was one of the first books we did, and it was a very successful book.
