And that's why what a time to be alive.

When on Rupert Murdoch's Fox you had The Simpsons, again, which wasn't, isn't great at satire, but still very funny, and then you have King of the Hill, which, like, you're right, like, low-key is just being a really interesting satire of a lot of the larger, you know, sort of factors of life and, like, a conspiracy theorist like Dale Gribble, who's also, like, probably kind of racist or something, but whose best friend is this guy, John Redcorn, who's completely nailing his wife.

Oh, that's right.

New channels were delayed and people still didn't really know what pay TV was or what this Galaxy company was.

But the biggest problem for Galaxy was competition in the form of the owner of Festival Records, Mr. Rupert Murdoch.

[upbeat music] You have to walk pretty far out of the valley to escape the shadow of Rupert Murdoch, because say what you want about the guy, he knew that power came from owning audience attention.

He ran tabloid newspapers that appealed to the masses, and in the time after the '90s, he made digital acquisitions to grab more audience attention, notably buying Myspace.

In the '90s, the battleground was pay TV.

Channel [V] didn't actually technically start in Australia.

Channel [V] started, like all good things according to my dad, in Hong Kong.

Our man Rupert Murdoch bought Star TV, a network of channels based out of Hong Kong.

Uh, and yes, he became, um...

You know, for instance, he, he became the lawyer for the, Rupert Murdoch, the Australian, uh, newspaper, uh, m- magnet, and, uh, he introduced and paved the way for Murdoch to get the TV licenses that he needed from the Reagan administration.

He took Murdoch-

That became Fox News.

Because when Facebook started, they had the same problem that Facebook.

a new social media service starting today would have which is that everyone was using the dominant platform which was called myspace and they gave everyone an alt client for myspace that had a bot that would go scrape your your myspace messages and stick them on your facebook wall and you reply them push them back out again the difference was that rupert murdoch could not destroy That app because Internet law had not become as favorable to incumbents as it is today.

And now they can.

And so, you know, between the fact that two companies control all the apps and that the law has been largely harmonized through the tender ministrations, the U.S. trade representative to make that kind of reverse engineering illegal.

you know, Mark Zuckerberg can do it onto Rupert Murdoch and Rupert Murdoch cannot do it onto Mark Zuckerberg.

Um, and, and, you know, the other thing I would say about this is that it's a species of cod Thatcherism, you know, of, of vulgar Thatcherism.

It's that there is no alternative model of, of social media that says, if you like some of what Facebook delivers, like I will freely stipulate that having a place where you can talk to your friends is fine.

One stood out as genuinely risky.

a $10 billion libel suit against Rupert Murdoch.

The Wall Street Journal and its reporters offer a story about Trump's alleged signature on a birthday card for Jeffrey Epstein.

The Trump-Murdoch relationship stretched back decades.

They're reading from what they've been told by people.

Now, the people that do know probably are those like Rupert Murdoch, who has an apartment with Ehud Barak in Israel.

And, you know, they're the ones that are going to feed this down because they're creating these international narratives.

And don't you can fact check me on that one.

I think Rupert Murdoch is the one that shared, but I don't an apartment with Ehud Barak, but it may have been a different prime minister anyhow.

Where am I going with that? I think what I'm trying to say is the mainstream narrative is this.

Within no time, they landed on, it is an attack of Islamic extremism, probably to do with Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.

He spends three months of the year there.

Rupert Murdoch is apparently very happy that he's being played by Guy Pearce in Danny Boyle's Ink.
