At a community board six hearing on Wednesday night, residents voiced concerns that losing the theater would also hurt nearby restaurants and other businesses.

Assembly member Keith Power says the reaction from the community has been unusually strong.

In neighborhood groups, they are pushing for alternatives that could allow the theater to remain.

AMC, they say, an exact closing date has not yet been announced.
