Don't you think Keith Barry would do way better than that? Because, you know, he could see it coming.

And a teacher, you know the way some teachers, uh, would just always remain with you, and things that they said and things that they did, uh, had such an influence on your life.

And it was funny, only back in the summer, I had Keith Barry, the mentalist, in studio.

He was, I think he was promoting one of his shows, and he's always such an interesting character.

And he asked me to, he was gonna read my mind, you know, I mean, the, the magic of it all.

And I said, "Okay, now he's gonna expect me to go for, you know, a parent or a grandparent or something like that." So I said, "I'll go really left of center." And I think, "Who's been really influential?" And I thought straight away, Sister Nuala.

Uh, you know, 'cause she's, was one of those teachers who I remember from my primary days, and I remember with such great affection and fondness.

So needless to say, uh, Keith Barry being Keith Barry started saying, "It's a female you're thinking of." I was going, "Yeah." Uh, the color black, she wears black, and of course, Sister Nuala did.

Uh, certainly when I was a child in school, she would have been wearing the black, uh, uh, habit.

Yeah

... and, and say Keith Barry walks in and he hypnotizes us.

He convinces you that you are the greatest stand-up comedian that has ever lived.

You're better than Joanne McNally, you're better than Kyla Cobbler, you're better than Seán Meaney, you're better than whoever is the big comedians at the moment, right? If he convinced you that you are that comedian, right?

But my guest today has, and it changed his life to the point that today it's he who does the hypnotizing.

Keith Barry is from Waterford.

His interest in magic began at the age of five when he got a Paul Daniels magic set.

He started performing semi-professionally at the age of 15, inspired by the tricks he learned from a book entitled Magic for the Complete Cloths.

And a television career followed, beginning in 2003 with a series called Close Encounters with Keith Barry.

From that point, his fame skyrocketed and since then, Keith has starred in over 40 international television shows.

He has advised on two Hollywood blockbusters, written three books and his TED Talk has been viewed so many times...

Very often they're just good imaginations.
