Kedzie Avenue

Attorneys say this proves the Border Patrol agent was never in danger when he shot her.

Shot four was shot right through the front passenger side window, which again, there is no world that a shot like this by a U.S. law enforcement officer on Kedzie Avenue on a nice Saturday morning should ever be justified.

And yet here he is, as Merimar is hunched over her steering wheel, just trying to get to safety so she can call 911, he shoots her through the right leg, goes through her leg, and out into the left leg.

FEDERAL OFFICIALS INITIALLY ACCUSED MARTINEZ OF TRYING TO RAM AGENTS WITH HER CAR, BUT VIDEO EVIDENCE LATER CHALLENGED THAT ACCOUNT.

We're hopeful that the U.S. Attorney's Office will also turn over their files to Chicago Police Department so that if the federal system, if the Department of Justice will not bring charges, as we hope they will, that at least the Cook County State's Attorney's Office could bring forth some sense of justice.

Because, again, this is an unlawful shooting that occurred on Kedzie Avenue on a beautiful Saturday morning a year ago.

And if the federal government is not going to hold Charles Exum accountable, then hopefully the Cook County state's attorney will.

Do you have faith? Do you believe that progress is being made in that direction? I understand a detective or someone with CPD has been assigned to her case.

And I began to pray about it.

And as I would walk down the streets, sometimes leaving the little church there on Flournoy Street and walking over to... to Harrison Street and on west to Kedzie Avenue, where there was a Greek restaurant that served delicious baked ham sandwiches for a reasonable price.

I would walk down the street and I'd be praying, oh, God, I want somehow, I want to serve you.

I want to be effective.
