Seven financial institutions, including Sinan Bank, KB Kumin Bank, Hana Bank and Busan Bank, have recently been targeted by hackers in attacks that compromise sensitive information such as customers' names, phone numbers and annual income.

The police said Tuesday that they're thoroughly investigating the case on suspected violations of the Information and Communications Network law.

Given the gravity of the situation, The Korean National Police Agency's Cyber Terror Investigation Unit is leading the investigation and has formed a specialized 28-member team.

Shinhan Bank reported about twenty-five thousand affected customers, and Jaegaram Savings Bank reported about forty thousand.

Smaller incidents affected customers or workers at KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank, BNK Busan Bank, and Hyundai Capital.

The reported data included contact details, income, loan limits, resident registration numbers, addresses, and employer information.

What makes this especially important is where the incidents occurred.
