Kearney

Two undefeated teams, one of the biggest match-ups in Missouri, and a game that was still up for grabs heading into the fourth quarter.

That's when Kearney High School took control, scoring 21 unanswered points to pull away from St. Pius X 31 to six.

I'm joined today by Kearney head coach, Logan Minnick.

Coach Minnich has built an impressive coaching resume.

He transformed a Raytown program that had gone nearly three decades without a winning season.

And since returning to Kearney in 2022, he's led the Bulldogs to two Class 4 state championships, including a perfect 14 and 0 season in 2025.

His success earned him the Missouri Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year honors.

It was a slow start offensively for both teams.

I think half was, gosh, what was it? I think 10 to seven, maybe I think it was a halftime and early Carney loan led because we took the opening kickoff 87 yards back for the touchdown, um, which got their crowd and sideline fired up kind of quieted pies for a minute.

I mean, the atmosphere was incredible.

There was people all around the stadium, a really great stadium.

But, no, the game was great.

Two teams that were, you know, great defenses going at it.

Carney, I think, just proved that they're a little bigger school.

And...

playing.

I was going to say Carney.

Okay.

Only we're going to be a little more focused, not necessarily on the odd commercial growth they've— and more on the growth of the community as a whole.

[laughs]

But we're gonna get there early for tailgating purposes, and it's going to be, I believe, uh, all of Kearney will be there, and it will be a fantastic atmosphere.

Uh, but let's first get into, uh, the Kansas side, and then we will, we'll, we'll finish with, uh, Kearney and St. Pius.

Uh, what about our Kansas player to watch, Blue Valley Northwest receiver Baron Marshall?

Well, here's a guy who's really exploded the last couple weeks with some big games for Blue Valley Northwest And their offense has just taken off every single week.

Big crowds.

I would probably say the second-biggest s- set of crowds will probably be at Rockhurst-Miege outside of, uh, Kearney and St. Pius.

He was to have returned the next Christmas, but the Missouri River was frozen, and he had to postpone the trip.

He came in the spring.

My grandfather liked Clay County, and he remained there, settling near Kearney.

He combined farming with preaching and was very successful at both.

My childish mind imagined that these were responsible for the murder, and in great anger I lugged from its closet my father's shotgun and tried to aim it at the people outside, but my mother took it from me.
