Switching to Linux | Part 10 - Final Day | 30 day challenge
C
8:53Chris TitusHOST
But the last big thing that was just a complete out of left field shocker for me was the video editing.
C
9:00Chris TitusHOST
I never used Kdenlive before this.
C
9:02Chris TitusHOST
I was using After Effects or Filmora if it was just something really simple.
C
9:10Chris TitusHOST
There was a lot of Windows programs that I could use for the editing.
C
9:14Chris TitusHOST
And I'm gonna tell you, Kdenlive, man, this video that I'm about to chop up tonight, it's gonna take me maybe six, seven minutes.
C
9:22Chris TitusHOST
I'm gonna splice these together, do some fades, do some dissolves between my clips, maybe some audio tweaking and I literally will be done in within 10 minutes with render time that's crazy I never anticipated that now mind you the auto audio quality first for setup and fixing the webcam and all that other stuff I was a little bit more involved it didn't just out of the box work that great but with some tweaking oh my god It's pretty great.
C
9:55Chris TitusHOST
I would say I'm making the best videos that I've made so far on my channel right now, which is good.
Switching to Linux | Part 8 | 30 day challenge
C
3:29Chris TitusHOST
We'll see how it turns out.
C
3:31Chris TitusHOST
Let me know in the comments section below if you're like, hey, this looked weird, or wow, your cuts are so much smoother now, or it's the exact same as Kdenlive, Titus.
C
3:42Chris TitusHOST
Whatever.
C
3:43Chris TitusHOST
like hearing it but other than that you know I want to get to the one thing now every every distribution has that one thing and some distributions have a dozen things but this kind of crop creeped up on me and I really didn't notice it until I started like doing some playback on videos or browsing YouTube my video playback sometimes it'll just freeze but the audio continues in the background uh i can't quite pinpoint what it is but it's not affecting my encoding or any of that so all my videos are Fine, but on my playback on my monitors, I'm just noticing a slight freeze depending on how high quality it is.
LTT Linux Challenge Part 3 Reaction - The Good, Bad and Ugly

Video, audio, functioning.
C
7:01Chris TitusHOST
I would just say Kdenlive's a lot better.
C
7:03Chris TitusHOST
Don't use Flowblade.
C
7:05Chris TitusHOST
I have never even seen Flowblade.
C
7:07Chris TitusHOST
I'm sure it's...
C
7:10Chris TitusHOST
Yeah, just use Kdenlive.
C
7:13Chris TitusHOST
It's probably one of the best open source editors.
C
7:15Chris TitusHOST
If you have to use something different, OpenShot's there.
I React to LTT's Linux Challenge Pt.2 - They're Getting It

Depending on the file that I was trying to play or export, it wouldn't work.
E
21:19ElijahSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
Frickin' curse you, Video Codex! So I then tried Kdenlive, which is fine for basic editing.
E
21:27ElijahSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
But if I want to be a power user,
C
21:29Chris TitusHOST
I actually did the first 500 videos on my channel in Kdenlive.
C
21:35Chris TitusHOST
It is cool, but it is very rough around the edges.
C
21:41Chris TitusHOST
I could not imagine going back to editing in Kdenlive after being on Resolve.
C
21:46Chris TitusHOST
I would pay thousands of dollars to make sure I never have to do that again because as soon as I switched to I think I switched to Final Cut Pro after using Kdenlive and I was like oh my gosh this is so much easier everything just works and it's so much faster and then I switched to DaVinci Resolve with a bunch of shortcut keys even more so than Final Cut Pro and I was like I am literally, I can make 10 videos in the time it took me to make one video with Cayden Live, and it looks infinitely better.
E
22:18ElijahSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
It's just not quite there yet.
Switching to Linux | Part 4 | 30 day challenge
C
0:34Chris TitusHOST
Things have been cruising along and I wanted to touch on the highlights and also the lowlights.
C
0:41Chris TitusHOST
So highlights of this so far have been Kdenlive, oh my god, I love this software.
C
0:48Chris TitusHOST
The more I use it, the faster I get at making videos.
C
0:52Chris TitusHOST
So I can make a five minute video much like this one.
C
1:04Chris TitusHOST
That's insane.
C
1:05Chris TitusHOST
So literally with 15 minutes, it takes me to cut and splice everything together and make this video that you're watching right now.
C
1:14Chris TitusHOST
So Kdenlive just better and better by the day.
C
1:18Chris TitusHOST
Love it.
Switching to Linux | Part 3 | 30 day challenge
C
1:14Chris TitusHOST
Okay, so it hasn't really been that bad.
C
1:19Chris TitusHOST
Really what's happened is I did do an experimental setting in Kdenlive.
C
1:23Chris TitusHOST
I did install some development kits, but there was no problems with that.
C
1:27Chris TitusHOST
It ended up being an experimental GPU setting in Kdenlive for my specific graphics card, which is a Vega 64 AMD.
C
1:38Chris TitusHOST
It caused all kinds of just random crashes on me.
C
1:42Chris TitusHOST
So I was doing these long renders in Kdenlive where it would come up to like 10 minutes or so on the render time and then at the very end it would wait until about 5 seconds left and it would say AV stream error and then it would just completely error out on me.
C
1:59Chris TitusHOST
oh my god so it i did this setting at the end of one of my recording sessions i didn't even think anything of it until the next time i came out so i actually did this days back but i hadn't really gotten into kade kade live i think it was yesterday or whenever it was and uh When I went to go ahead and record, I completely forgot about the setting.
C
2:22Chris TitusHOST
So I kept getting all these errors, and I was looking everywhere.
Switching to Linux | Part 5 | 30 Day Challenge
C
6:51Chris TitusHOST
One big software I wanted to start using was DaVinci Resolve.
C
6:56Chris TitusHOST
I've loved Kdenlive and I'll continue to use Kdenlive even if I like DaVinci Resolve.
C
7:01Chris TitusHOST
I imagine I'll still use Kdenlive just because of how fast I've gotten in it.
C
7:07Chris TitusHOST
But I wanted to use DaVinci Resolve and I couldn't because of a lot of driver issues and OpenCL issues I have.
C
7:14Chris TitusHOST
Mind you, I am running a Vega 64, a very unique GPU, but it is a very modern GPU that works very well in Windows and also Ubuntu, where I can download the AMD GPU Drivers Pro and install it.
Switching to Linux | Part 1 | 30 Day Challenge
C
4:07Chris TitusHOST
I'm going to tell you right now.
C
4:10Chris TitusHOST
that by switching to linux uh the recording doing the daily videos has really strung out that process it's put a lot of strain on me because all these other tutorial videos i was knocking out man in windows i was knocking it out in about 30 minutes for almost each video And in Linux, I'm using Kdenlive.
C
4:31Chris TitusHOST
I'm using GIMP when I can, or at least try to use GIMP.
C
4:36Chris TitusHOST
And oh my God, I really just have to relearn all the stuff I already know and how frustrating that is.
C
5:42Chris TitusHOST
However, there's not anything real complex with that.
C
5:44Chris TitusHOST
So a lot of the more complex graphic art, I'm still going to have to do Photoshop.
C
5:50Chris TitusHOST
As far as the video edits, I really like Kdenlive.
C
5:52Chris TitusHOST
The first couple videos I've tried it with, it went well.
DistroTube's Derek Taylor: From Side Project to Full-Time Creator
S
31:45Steven CrossHOST
Not to get too technical, but what video editing tools are you using?
D
31:49Derek TaylorGUEST
Almost every video I've ever made has been edited in Kdenlive.
S
31:53Steven CrossHOST
Okay.
S
31:54Steven CrossHOST
I used Kdenlive for years and years.
S
31:56Steven CrossHOST
Okay.
D
31:57Derek TaylorGUEST
Yeah, it's the best one as far as free and open source software.
D
32:28Derek TaylorGUEST
It actually rendered the video faster.
D
32:31Derek TaylorGUEST
Blender is actually pretty nice as a video editor.
SSAB - October 13, 2026
S
33:15Steven SirskiHOST
Uh, I have news for you.
S
33:17Steven SirskiHOST
There have been open source projects that have already done it, okay? Uh, Audacity for audio editing, Kdenlive or Blender for video editing, Inkscape for Photoshop.
S
33:29Steven SirskiHOST
I mean, OpenOffice for docs.
S
33:32Steven SirskiHOST
You don't need to Vibe code anything.
S
34:22Steven SirskiHOST
It could be like if you wanna offer your services to someone else to edit their, their videos and they send you...
S
34:29Steven SirskiHOST
Maybe they don't send you a Blackmagic RAW or a Red One file footage, uh, file, but they send you a RealPlayer file form, uh, file format from, like, fifteen years ago.
S
34:43Steven SirskiHOST
Does your Linux box, does your, uh, Kdenlive, does your open source, does your Vibe coded app deal with that codec? Well, good luck trouble sh- troubleshooting it.
S
34:55Steven SirskiHOST
This is-- I, I meant to do this actually, uh, the other day.
