Kawartha Lakes

The weather people have decided that it is easier to track September as fall, it seems.

Either way, driving back last week from Barrie through Toronto, up to the Kawarthas, Kawartha Lakes.

Google it if you've never been there or heard of it.

And driving back to Merrickville, where I live, there's this highway called Highway 7.

And he goes, I was selling more boats than anyone who worked full time.

And it was in like the Kawartha Lakes area.

I was selling boats.

And he goes, I made so much money in the four summers that I was in seminary.

So to give you some context about where I was to where I am, that's a bit of a trip.

I could stop at the Kawartha Lakes today.

Oh, my God, that's nice.

So we had no control over the budgets, but we were legislatively required to pay the bills.

Um, and so it's, uh, you know, we purchase social services and housing from the city of Kawartha Lakes, and it's nothing negative about the way they provide the service, it's just the way that service is structured with the province, the cost kept going up.

I think we've averaged, uh, in housing it's around a 16% increase year over year, and 14% in social services.

So you start adding those together, it starts g- getting, uh, up there in, in costing.

... that to me sounds interesting, and what could we do with that, and what could we do with that singular strategic vision?

Yeah, and I'm gonna ask Gary about that in a minute, but you know, I, I actually lived in the city of Kawartha Lakes, which everyone is calling the city of m- you know, Kawartha Mistakes now.

Uh, God forbid we should go down that, that road even though, and we, we can discuss this quickly, it's two very different scenarios.

Once rusty crayfish are established, there's currently no practical way to permanently remove them.

The first sighting of rusty crayfish in Ontario was in the 1960s in the Kawartha Lakes region.

They're now found throughout most... throughout much of south central and southeastern Ontario including magni- uh, Manitoulin Island, the Magnetawan River" ... of course, the lakes basin, the Ottawa River basin, and in Northwestern Ontario.

Outside their native range in the Ohio River basin, rusty crayfish have also spread to the mid, Midwestern and Northeastern United States.
