Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, the city government on October first ordered that a mosque illegally built on land here without a permit be removed before the end of September twenty twenty-seven.

The city confirmed that the mosque owner was the company that owned the land and issued the demolition order based on the city planning law.

The city also identified two individuals as having the authority to manage and use the mosque and ordered them to stop using it.

The orders have been issued because the building violates the city planning law, and they are related neither to nationality nor religion, said Kawagoe Mayor Hatsue Morita.

The exterior of the mosque was almost completed when city residents notified the city in October twenty twenty-four that such a building was under construction.

The facility is located in an urbanization control area where a permit is needed for construction.
