Pike shouldn't have sat on death row for decades and her botched execution undermines the pursuit of true justice, not only in her case, but in all cases going forward.

In National Review, Catherine Jean Lopez wrote, the state as executioner is a moral failure and turns out to be a practical one too.

Pike was going to be the first woman executed in the state of Tennessee in over 200 years and the first person in the modern era who was a teenager at the time of the offense, according to her clemency petition.

This is barbaric.
