Keri plays Ambassador Kate Wyler, a career foreign service officer who's plucked from the background and appointed ambassador to the UK, a high-profile role that initially seems softer and more ceremonial than she'd prefer.

And honestly, that forms the connective tissue between Lindsey Duncan and Kate Wyler in The Diplomat.
speaker_0HOST
Ooh, absolutely.
speaker_0HOST
The parallels are so clear.
speaker_4HOST
Right.
speaker_4HOST
Because if you analyze Kate Wyler's trajectory on the show, her most brutal conflicts are rarely with hostile foreign diplomats.
speaker_4HOST
They are with her own president, her own secretary of state.
