There's a scholar at Northeastern Law School named Kara Swanson, who's written a lot about the appropriation of an invention by an enslaved man named Ned.

So this is 1859, it's in Mississippi.

I can't remember the name of the plantation owner in Mississippi, but he writes to the attorney general and he says, hey, so my enslaved person, Ned, has invented this kind of plow.
