Kapiti Coast District Council

Someone's texted a question in for Sophie from Richard.

When you were chair of the finance on Kapiti Coast District Council, our rates went up 54%.

Do you support rates capping?

So Labour's supportive of having the conversation, we're supporting it to first reading, but I think we've got a bigger problem around local government funding and financing that needs to be addressed and just setting an arbitrary cap doesn't solve the fundamental problem.

That is a great thing to do.

And I've met with Kapiti Council.

They say they can live within that and deliver all the essential infrastructure we need.

That's good because it's refocusing them.
