Kang Sheng

The dog-beating squads were commanded by two men.

One was Kang Sheng, an intellectual who would play a massive role in the coming decades.

And the other?

The other was a man named Gu Shunzhang.

They built a sprawling sensor network across civil society, but their primary objectives were the two forces that had just massacred them: the Green Gang and Chiang Kai-shek's Guomindang.

The infiltration of the Green Gang is almost comical in its audacity.

We mentioned Kang Sheng, the intellectual who co-directed the assassination squads.

Kang wears gold-rimmed glasses, he's highly educated, and he leverages his regional guanxi from Shandong province to secure a job as a personal administrative secretary.
