Kaneda

It is something that can, you know, from talking to younger people, I got to watch it.

It really resonated with them that the struggle of Tetsuo and Kaneda and his friends to try to kind of find some place in the world where society itself seems to have a contempt for them.

It almost blames them for being dirtbags beyond any kind of value.

They're delinquents that just need to go to school and shut up and sit down and behave.

Obviously, a mass shooter with insane psychic powers.

But yeah, he was abandoned.

And I also found it really interesting that even though we can say that Kaneda really cares about Tetsuo, we get those flashbacks towards the end of the film where Kaneda got beat up standing up for Tetsuo.

So he comes out with that bloody nose and he's like, hey, they always do that to new kids.

... which were all from Japan.

But I did, you know, showed up to the studio and got paid nickels on the dollar to, to do the voice of, uh, Kaneda.

"Tetsuo." And, um, then I go start doing the shows for about 15 years now, and I went, "Wait, really? That's a big deal? Huh." And the other titles that I've done, I did not know that grown-ups, young grown-ups, that this was a big deal to stay within this world that they began as a child running home from school.
