In 1982, a member named Francis Batista was driving through southern Utah and passed a red rock canyon outside a small town called Kanab.

Hollywood used to shoot westerns there.

Batista fell for the place, and other members drove out and felt the same.

It also grew into a national movement to end shelter-killing altogether.

Millions of Americans have donated.

Thousands visit Kanab every year to walk a dog through the Red Rock.

Several of the original founders, now in their 70s and 80s, still work there.

They operate the nation's largest no-kill animal sanctuary from their headquarters in Kanab, Utah.

This is just one of the neatest organizations and it all started from a couple friends deciding, wow, if we put our minds to it and you match people with homeless pets, like so many people go out and buy or breed, like there are animals all over this country that just need a home.
