We're also walking in the footsteps of Métis Region 3, so we acknowledge all of the families and the history that is steeped into this land.

For those generations of the past and those generations yet to be born, remember we are all treaty people.

I have a Blackfoot name, and I have a really good rapport with a number of folks on...

We have three tribes up here in Alberta, so we have Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai.

And so I have an, I have good relationships with a number of folks on tho- in those groups.

So I just run things by folks before I do things, and they're actually very supportive.

So tonight, the Breakdown is recording this on Treaty 7 territory, traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and traveling route of the Blackfoot Nations, which include the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani First Nations, as well as the Stoney Nakoda First Nations and the Tsuut'ina First Nation.

This land is also home to the Otipemisiwak- Yeah.

So archaeologists in Alberta, Canada worked with elders of the Blackfoot Confederacy to learn more about these formations.

John Wolfchild of the Kainai Nation offers stories about his late great-uncle, the warrior and tribal chief Makoyapuk, who was honored with a medicine wheel memorial.

Wolfchild could paint a picture of Mokoyapuk, including his famous topknot decorated with feathers from his travels.

He sounds like a baller.

Here in Calgary, we are in Treaty 7 territory.

Today, the Treaty 7 First Nations are Siksika, Kainai, Pekani, Tsutina, and the Bears Paw, Chinooki, and Good Stony First Nations of the Stony Dakota.

Treaty 7 was negotiated in 1877.

That is 28 years before Alberta became a province.
