KarlGUEST

It was big day harness racing at Kaikoura earlier in the week as well.
KarlGUEST
3:20
Oh, yes.
KarlGUEST
3:21
And the beautiful Kaikoura race course there.
KarlGUEST
3:26
So a couple of multis from there, actually.
KarlGUEST
3:28
First one, a six-leg $1 multi.
MikeyAUDIENCE
38:25
I'm more of a trotting man, so I just pick one and put 10x well in it, and Bob's your uncle.
MikeyAUDIENCE
38:31
What else we got? Oh, Captain and Mistress at Kaikoura.
MikeyAUDIENCE
38:33
Well, isn't it cool to see superstars come over? You know, even though the stake money's not really there, you know, they just want to come over for the experience.
MikeyAUDIENCE
38:40
Isn't that pretty cool?
Jesse MulliganHOST

What about kaitaia?
Ingrid HipkissHOST
1:01
What is the dream here?
Nigel MuirGUEST
1:03
Well, the ultimate dream, and we're getting closer by the day, Ingrid, is to create an extraordinary 170-kilometre cycle trail, walking trail, from the beautiful township of Waitai-Picton all the way to the beautiful seaside township of Kaikoura.
Ingrid HipkissHOST
1:23
And at the moment, is it dangerous the way it's set up at the moment?
Nigel MuirGUEST
1:29
Yes, well, at the moment, we've got about 155 kilometres completed and we're in this precarious situation where we can't send riders safely up from Waitai Picton up to the top of the elevation because they... have to share a very tight stretch of state highway with about 1.2 million ferry passengers traffic.
LashesPANELIST
36:55
Yep.
LashesPANELIST
36:56
Jared's asked, hey guys, did you punt on Always Be Batman yesterday at Kaikoura? I did, what a win.
LashesPANELIST
37:02
And by the way, is there a better spot to watch horse racing in the country than the South Bay Racecourse? Well we discussed that yesterday, didn't we? Yeah we
Finn BullsPANELIST
37:09
did.
Brandon KreymborgHOST

There are already three races down at this stage.
Brandon KreymborgHOST
0:36
The next goes in about 11 minutes.
Brandon KreymborgHOST
0:39
We'll see if we can't get a couple of good things over the line today at Kaikoura.
Brandon KreymborgHOST
0:43
So that's free for all.
Brandon KreymborgHOST
0:46
A really, really important Kaikoura Cup that will be running our time on the eastern seaboard, particularly in Sydney, 1.24 local time.
Brandon KreymborgHOST
0:56
It's a good field.
Zac PenmanGUEST
5:38
Within those 300 metres of a whale, you're only allowed to do five knots, stay away from the area in front of them, always follow along behind, and don't overtake any of the marine mammals.
Zac PenmanGUEST
5:50
Aeroplanes also count as a vessel, so if there's two boats and an aeroplane here in Kaikōura, that's all the vessels were allowed within 300 metres.
Zac PenmanGUEST
5:57
You have to sit back, wait for someone to leave, and once there's a gap, you can come in a little bit closer for a look.
Zac PenmanGUEST
6:05
And then also if it's a mother and calf, baleen whale, you just have to stay a lot further back.
Zac PenmanGUEST
9:12
This is Hekarangi Marine Reserve, one of the largest inshore marine reserves in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Zac PenmanGUEST
9:19
10,000 hectares extends out 12 nautical miles and it's been here for 11 years now.
Zac PenmanGUEST
9:25
It was put in place to protect the sperm whales habitat so that no oil or gas exploration could happen and also to protect sort of a unique sample of our coastal, nearshore and deepwater ecosystems here in Kaikōura.
Claire ConcannonHOST
9:42
So I can see the big yellow triangle on land, Zach, with the sign saying Marine Reserve.
Scotty StevensonHOST
0:24
And Paul Mawadi, it's a day.
Scotty StevensonHOST
0:27
It's Kaikoura Cup Day, by the way, people, for those of you who love your harness racing.
Scotty StevensonHOST

But it's all about tomorrow, Paulie, and There'll be a lot going on behind the scenes there as the bookies try to keep a pace with global markets and we all try to figure out who wins the Melbourne Cup and the holy grail of racing betting, trying to pick a first four in a Melbourne Cup.
Scotty StevensonHOST
0:47
So what have you got for us? Give us a first four, let's go.
Paul MaoateGUEST
3:46
So you are $23 into $12 in the Melbourne Cup.
Scotty StevensonHOST

Dan HenryGUEST

But in this particular programme, which is on Ashworth High Country Station in Kaikoura, the Kaikoura range and it's within sight of Blenheim from the tops of these ranges you can see the township of Blenheim but there are some magnificent drone shots in there captured by Steve Fisher and you couldn't have captured them with a helicopter because the sheep are just there doing their thing these merino weathers heading up over the pass and these shots crane up and you know it does exactly what our show can do which is take you to the corners of the country that you just wouldn't otherwise get to go.
Kate RodgerHOST
12:46
Oh, it is.
Kate RodgerHOST
12:47
It's an absolute window into some beautiful places.
