But what, what is Australian cricket gonna do with number three going into some of the toughest test cricket we've got coming up in South Africa?

It's a great question.

It's been a conveyor belt of openers for far too long now.

I think when David Warner, when he retired a year or so ago, he'd had, was it 20 opening partners or 18 opening partners or something ridiculous.

And now we're talking about who's gonna bat at number three as well.

So I always felt that in all great teams, the foundation of one, two, and three's always strong.

Can you summarize Australia's performance for us, guys, and what we saw in the past two Test matches? What did we learn about this team?

We learned that Cameron Green's gonna be a very important part of it.

He played beautifully.

He played well in the first Test in Darwin, in the second innings, obviously, and he played well again today in, in a low-scoring game.

We learned that Steve Smith is still pivotal to this batting order.

We've learned that there's gonna be some big questions asked of this Australian batting side, and there'll be some big series coming up.

South Africa, New Zealand have got a very good bowling attack, fast bowling attack as well.

Is that gonna be something that they consider for South Africa, given that they do have new ball threats there in Rabada and Jansen and Ngidi, and whether that dynamic... 'Cause that dynamic then changes the whole makeup of this team because of Green having done well, Carey at seven, so then that maybe forces a, a, a squeeze with Webster.

But certainly two-day test matches, unacceptable.

It's, it's no good for the game, you know, for, for so many reasons.

Last year was disappointing for the crowds, for the kids who get to watch their, their heroes on TV or listen on the radio or get to the ground.

Firstly, you wanted Australia to respond strongly after what happened in Darwin, which led by Mitch Starc, they definitely did.

Yeah, they did, and, and it's not surprising.

Australia very rarely lose back-to-back games.

They're a very proud team.

They're also a very experienced team, so, and we saw that.

They were outstanding.

To bowl out any international team for 60, that's telling you something.

What do you make of his dismissal and his overall spot in this team?

So I think that would've played a part given that he averages over 100 here in Mackay.

I, I thought, Tom, that maybe a couple of years ago, I s- predicted or thought that Cameron Bancroft and Renshaw would be a long-term partnership for Australia.

You know, they'd both been out of the side, back in.

If you look at the history of Australian cricket, the really good players, they get dropped.

They, they go away, they make a lotta runs, they come back better.

So, um, Bancroft's off the radar now.

Is it harsh on Jake Weatherald?

Yeah.

I, I look back on Australian cricket, you know.

There was a young Ricky Ponting came into the team.

There's a young Michael Clarke comes in.

There's a young Phil Hughes comes in.

There's a young Steven Smith comes into the team, and they, you know...

I hear this thing in England about the ceiling.

Do, do you see those guys carrying on for the foreseeable? And if you do, what should they be looking to sort of tweak in the mindset of the group? 'Cause there's a talented group of players here, but I ca- I can't look throughout the series and see they've won maybe one or two crucial moments in test matches.
