An appeal Tuesday to the quorum court by a local business owner to allocate some of the West Memphis, Crittenden County drug task forces more than $1 million to hire additional officers evoked adverse comments about the unit from the Justices of the Peace.

Mel Bearden brought petitions which he said contained signatures of 100 people urging the justices to release money to get more help so the task force could expand its efforts in fighting drugs and drug-related crimes.
