Just a Closer Walk with Thee

Just a closer walk with you Grant it, Jesus, if you please Daily walking close to Thee Let it be, O Lord, let it be In this world of toils and snares If I fall, O Lord, who cares Who with me my burden shares? None but Thee, O Lord, none but Thee.

Just a closer walk with Thee.

Grant it, Jesus, if You please.

Daily walking close to Thee.

Let it be, O Lord, let it be When my troubled life is o'er Time for me will be no more Then guide me gently, safely o'er To Thy shore, O Lord, to Thy shore Just a closer walk with Thee.

Grant it, Jesus, if You please.

Daily walking close to Thee.

Right now here's Rhonda Vincent.

This is called Just a Closer Walk With Thee.

And of course, like I said, this is from Larry's Country Diner.

We're gonna start there and we're gonna move around a little bit today.

And also, since you brought notebooks with you, go ahead and take, I wanna encourage you to always take notes at church, but today I've titled the message, Just a Closer Walk with Thee.

Holy Spirit, come on, somebody.

How many of you remember the old hymn? Just a closer walk with thee.

I don't know why it sounds like a country song, but anyway.

The lyric says, just a closer walk with thee.

Grant it, Jesus, it is my plea.

Daily walking close to thee.

Now I'm not too sure if Geoff Power is going to be playing cornet next weekend but in case he is this will give you a taste of his playing.

This is Geoff Power with Just a Closer Walk with Thee.

Thee.[jazz music]

That's Geoff Power, very talented young cornet player, uh, with his classic jazz with just A Closer Walk with Thee.

Now, just to show you how talented he is, uh, here he is with the New Wolverine Orchestra.

Have I given anything?

That is today from the Willie Wilson and Company CD, Just a Closer Walk with Thee.

Willie Wilson is not just a businessman.

He is a singer, a gospel singer with a wonderful voice, and he shared this CD with me last time we talked.

Of course, there was another emerging gospel style singer emanating from the very same scene, Judy Durham.

Judy, later to become Judith, released an EP on the W&G label with Frank Traynor's Jazz Preachers including the gospel-flavored Just a Closer Walk with Thee.

The Seekers' very first 45 on the W&G label comprised two gospel-flavored songs, Kumbaya on the A and This Train on the B.

Back in 1962, the Yarra Yarra New Orleans Jazz Band with Judy Jarques released an EP, Volume 2, with This Train as the lead track on side A. Here's an excerpt from Judith Durham's turn on lead vocals for the Seekers' version of This Train, followed by Judy Jarques' version with the Yarra Yarra New Orleans Jazz Band.
