Juniata River

What have you discovered? Well, I

went on a fishing trip yesterday to the Juniata River Valley, which is... 32 miles north of Harrisburg, the state capital.

I love it when you start a story with such detail.

All right, I'm there.

Yeah, so...

Because I fish two rivers mainly, the Susquehanna and the Juniata River.

So on the Susquehanna, if we get weather and hits from the west and doesn't go north, that'll screw up the west branch, which blows into the main stem of the Susquehanna.

And then you'll lose like half the river.

Why the east side? Because that's fed from the north branch.

will be, you know, set or relatively clear, good conditions.

And the same goes for the Juniata, even though that's still western part, you get, it just comes down to Juniata Valley, and if you get heavy storms there, That'll really screw up the Juniata River.

And then once you get, comes into Susquehanna and Duncannon, so then the west side from Duncannon south can be muddied up too.

My wife and I, when we conceived of this, what has become an annual tradition of a river float trip, I know at the time in 2007, we recruited a couple of friends, people that we knew had canoes, and put together a small trip of a couple of us floating from the Millerstown area on the Juniata River.

We spent a night at a campground and paddled the second day to Blue Mountain Outfitters.

I had been on a canoe here and there at some sort of youth camps throughout my life, but it wasn't a regular thing.

When it started, we were about 20 years younger, so we were more ambitious.

We were, we were doing that second day on the river.

And now in recent years, we organized a trip so that we're getting out of the river, the Juniata River now, usually somewhere near Newport, and we invite everybody back to our house for that after-float, um, kind of get-together.

So we've started the canoe trip on the Juniata River as far north as Lewistown and paddled all the way down to, um, the confluence with the Susquehanna at, um, Clarks Ferry.
