Junia

Not just the female church leaders that we mentioned previously, but also Phoebe, um, mentioned in Romans, was given authority by the Apostle Paul to essentially, uh, convey his message to the Romans.

Uh, Junia is mentioned as an apostle, and many scholars would recognize Mary Magdalene, who proclaimed Jesus's, um, resurrection to the disciples as sort of the fir- the apostle to the apostles.

That's how she was known throughout the Middle Ages, um, and kind of seen as, as one proclaiming the gospel.

Um, in that way.

all of whom he knew personally he loved and they had in common that these were his kinsmen they were in the same family they were working in the lord together just like with rufus who was chosen in the lord and rufus's mother who had also been like a mother to paul One of the most interesting women listed in this passage is in verse 7 and her name is Junius.

The ESV renders it Junia.

She and Andronicus are Paul's kinsmen and his fellow prisoners.

This verse is translated a couple different ways.

But basically in the US, there are actually 30,000, approximately 30,000 girls or females named after their mothers.

They just don't have the, you know, the formal Junia suffix.

But yes, actually, this has been going on for centuries, both in the U.S. and outside of the U.S. And I have met these Junias along the way.

And to actually recognize them, we actually have something called Junia Legacies, where we will present them with a Junia medallion So they're basically the foremothers of, you know, Junia and their legacy in themselves.

And we're collecting and telling their stories.
