But if she was talking about something like Julius Malema, I'd absolutely agree.
M
24:15Makone MajaGUEST
I'm bewildered at how somebody of her self-perception and qualifications, at least as a physician, could submit herself to the leadership of somebody like Julius Malema.
M

We saw how he treated two individuals that served him the longest, were the most loyal to him.

We had a front for Julius Malema.
H
48:48Helen ZilleGUEST
Not a champion for the poor, but a front for Julius Malema in trying to capture parts of the city of Joburg to loot the city.
H
48:57Helen ZilleGUEST
And I can give you chapter and verse of that.
H
48:59Helen ZilleGUEST
Just ask me, I'll give you chapter and verse, but not in my brief two minutes.

If you look at his record, you will see that what he did was facilitate Julius Malema's capture of First of all, the top cop, Shadrach Sabir, in the city.

It doesn't mean she's endorsing whatever she may or may not be found guilty of, by the way.
C
4:41Clement ManyathelaHOST
um but she's there to support her comrade or she's there to support her friend and i mean we've seen politicians in the past celebrities business people you name it and ordinary south africans we've seen people stand by their friends and associates when they've faced allegations or legal battles public humiliation or personal crises um whether it's i mean julius malema jacob zuma you name it i mean even international pdd and kanye west and the family and who goes to court to support this person even during Bursissi and Mukobani's court appearances, remember? So there are many examples I can give in as far as politicians are involved, but I think there are some real cases, even with just us as ordinary South Africans.
C
5:37Clement ManyathelaHOST
But then again, loyalty can be complicated.
C
5:40Clement ManyathelaHOST
So I want to know from you this morning, what do you do in situations like that when your friend is in trouble? What would you do? And have you found yourself in that situation? Can you support someone without supporting what they're accused of? In other words, at what point does standing by a friend or a family member become defending the indefensible? And the quiet behind the scenes support, does that actually have a, you know, is that a greater demonstration of loyalty than making a public show of solidarity or public show of defense, whatever you want to call it? So that's what I'm asking this morning.

I mean, I'm just, um, y- you know, in, up here in Johannesburg, um, if you look at the posters of, uh, party posters, and this is a local government election, but you let's just say the Economic Freedom Fighters, you only see Malema's face, for example, or, or, or, and so on, and not the local person, not their local candidate.
W
4:55William GumedeGUEST
So, um, and, and that's where our problem starts because you have to, at the local level, a citizen actually has more opportunities to vote for the right candidates.
