Jules at Eight

I'm Madeleine Brand.

In 1996, a documentary short called Jules at Eight introduced guitarist Julian Lage Jules to the world when he was an eight-year-old prodigy.

Since I was five, I played every day, except this one day I had to go away and I couldn't take the guitar on the train, and I really regret that day.

The guitar he's holding in that scene looks big against his small frame.

I don't think I experienced it as much of a shift.

It was so gradual that there wasn't a tremendous amount of inertia.

For example, even again, that documentary was made by Mark Becker.

It was his final project for Stanford in the film department.
