Juice Scruggs

Running back Alvin Kamara suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain on August 18th and is expected to miss Week 1.

Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Texans in exchange for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs and multiple picks.

They also drafted offensive tackle Blake Miller in the first round.

Running back Isaiah Pacheco was sent to IR with a back injury, after which time the team said they hoped to have him back this season.

How Detroit will try to win.

The Lions experienced some turnover this season, like any team in the NFL, but the bulk of their core remains the same entering 2026.

Gone is former offensive coordinator John Morton and running back David Montgomery, and in come two new offensive linemen in Juice Scruggs and Blake Miller, three veteran starters on the defensive side of the ball, and new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.

I stand by my belief that Petzing's offense is borderline prehistoric in scheme, situational tendencies, and route structure through the air, but his run game design is one of the best in the league.

You know, he has the broken wrist that he's, uh, nursing right now.

And early in the season, Juice Str- Juice Scruggs is gonna be the center.

So, but by the end of the year, you should have your full allotment.

And then if they do, you hope that they have rounded into the form that we need them to round into to be a real factor, uh, come playoff time.

He can't get on the field? They picked Jarrett Patterson kind of high, too, didn't they? Patterson? Well, Juice Scruggs has been good for them when on the field.

They traded him, though.

So, I mean, they'd probably love to have him at center right now and not Evan Brown.

Well, they got, I mean, Mahogany and Ratledge are pretty good, but they do have Juice Scruggs.

This could be like a peeper, piper situation, because he could play center or guard.

they mentioned you know barge missed some time with a concussion i think he had an injury before the concussion i know but he missed a good chunk of camp they were speculating that if barge had a full complement of reps the entire camp that he may have gone out and outright one it's not like mahogany took it and like nope this is mine i'm i that's the one thing that's a little bit of a it's it's definitely the one spot on this offensive line obviously i don't have kate mays but where you It's going to be a question mark, and we'll see if one guy emerges, whether it's Mahogany, Barch, maybe even once Mays is back, maybe Juice Scruggs is going to play some left guard.

Who knows? We'll see what it looks like, but that's an area to keep an eye on going into this week one, and then obviously the first-round pick, rookie right tackle, Blake Miller.

uh, who by all accounts, you know, he's a rookie.

It's about putting up wins.

But unfortunately, with the way the injuries worked out, you know, Juice Scruggs was supposed to be part of this competition, too, at left guard, as Dan was kind of quick to remind us this week.

But that obviously changed when Cade Mays went down.

Things didn't get off to a great start when, you know, Barch wasn't starting at the beginning.

But you have to understand that they are going to be working with limited resources for the foreseeable future, and those are the kind of free agents they're going to add.

And so it's going to look like Ben Barches.

It's going to look like Seth McLaughlin's and Juice Scruggs.

You know, guys that are investments and have high upside, but they're not going to be these splashy things that you're looking for.

I promise I won't.

What did you see out of the Seahawks and the Patriots, Juice, in your quick synopsis? It was a snooze fest, but someone that knows ball like you, I know you came up with a couple things.

Yeah, I did not like Drake May's performance.

I thought that he looked like he had a singular brain cell out there.

And I don't think we can wait either.

That right there, that energy that Kelvin Shepard's talking about, his guy couldn't be the guy that he wanted to be last year.

There might be something here.

But there's a real risk if those two guys don't pan out at either their new position or their first year in the league, because even though Tate Ratledge is good, you could have issues with Cade Mays already injured, Juice Scruggs and Christian Mahogany being performance risks.

There are question marks here.
