Judy Lewis

In a twisted turn of events, Young left her daughter in an orphanage in Europe for 18 months while she and the studios figured out how they were gonna angle the story.

It was then announced that Loretta Young was going to adopt two girls, a three-and-a-half-year-old girl named Jane and a little girl named Judy Lewis, now 23 months old.

The three-year-old girl was a local girl from California who was borrowed from her mother by Loretta Young while the story was pushed in the press.

The young child, Judy Lewis, was actually Loretta Young's own daughter from her affair with Clark Gable.

The story was slung around the press as a promotion for Loretta Young.

It painted her as a young, brave mother who was breaking with taboos to care for two poorly children who had been abandoned in the world.

He died in 1960 without ever uttering the truth.

Loretta went on lying to Judy for years until she finally let the secret slip a decade or so after Gable's death.
