Judges 18

All right.

Well, I, as I promised, we're in Judges 18 tonight.

And, uh, while it isn't necessary to have watched or been here for last week's, this is a continuation of Judges 17, so, uh, hopefully you were there for that or you have the notes.

But last week we covered that whole chapter, which is a little bit shorter than this one, and we saw how we were introduced to Micah and his mother, and they launched a cult.

And Jonathan, the son of Gershom, son of Moses, and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.

So they set up Micah's carved image that he made as long as the house of God was at Shiloh." And so this concludes this chapter.

What's the point of the ending here? Judges 18, the first conclusion of Judges, ends with Dan overpowering this people.

They abandon the territory God told them to conquer and settle instead in the far north.

We're going to continue in Judges for the next two weeks.

We're going to be looking at Judges 17 tonight and Judges 18, Lord willing, next week.

And so where we last left off in Judges was with the death of Samson.

As we talked about extensively during the life of Samson, Samson was a great example of just how bad Israel, the Jewish people, had fallen during this time, to the point that they were okay with their Philistine captors.

We're going to see next week that Dan has a serious issue because they don't actually have their tribal land, which is going to be the catalyst for everything that happens next week.

So it's the idea of just situating us where we are in Israel.

And it's also that key detail is going to come back again next week when we get to Judges 18.

So that's the shortish version of what's going on.
