Judge Turpin

There's so much Christian imagery, too, in Sweeney Todd in general.

You know, Mrs. Lovett's kind of fake piety, all the characters having this piety that's kind of not real, right? Like Judge Turpin in...

His version of Joanna, he is begging for forgiveness.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

You know, it forms a pieta at the end.

He's holding her body, cradling her like Mary and Jesus.

And also, you know, Joanna is kind of this sacred object to the men around her, Antony and Sweeney and Judge Turpin.

Yeah.

Dave, the organ.

We have arrived at the ultimate treatment, the apex of our menu, the Judge Turpin Freeze.

I'm sorry, the who? The judge! He looks down upon the peasants of Los Angeles with absolute contempt, and his forehead must reflect the marble columns of his courthouse.

You told

can't call them peasants.

Sweeney Talks!

I require the Judge Turpin.

I wish to attend my ex-wife's charity gala tonight, and I do not want her to know if I am feeling gleeful, depressed, or wrathful.

I can see through some...

You Judge Turpin you." You know? ...

lusting after me in many ways.

You know, so it's one of those things where like I just thought, yeah, like I thought that was a terrific analogy.

Musical theater fans have something exciting to look forward to this December, as rising star Sung Min-jae joins the 10th anniversary production of Sweeney Todd in the role of Johanna.

Sung Min-jae will bring her clear, delicate vocal tone to the character of Sweeney Todd's daughter, a young woman raised in isolation by the villainous Judge Turpin, who dreams of breaking free into the outside world.

The actress, known for her previous stage work in productions like Portrait of a Boy, Laundry, and Beethoven, will share the stage with an impressive ensemble, including Cho Sung-woo, Kang Pil-seok, and Kim Joo-taek rotating in the title role, alongside Jeon Mi-do, Kim So-hyun, and Park Ji-hyun taking on Mrs. Lovett.

This acclaimed Stephen Sondheim musical, blending dark comedy with thriller elements, tells the story of a wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking revenge in 19th century London.

I even think the narrator said Grunwee a few different ways throughout the film.

And the way his character in this movie, I think just because of how much of it takes place around trying to figure out what is happening with these murders, I kept thinking of Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd.

Yeah.

Yes.

We're going to coin it right here, the Rickman factor.

There you go.

Yeah, the comparison to Turpin is very, very apt.

See, this is why I like having you on.
