Joy Bangla

The raid occurred after Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party, claimed it was a secret gathering of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's now banned Awami League.

The JSD was formerly part of Hasina's 14-party alliance A court remanded 27 people because they allegedly chanted Joy Bangla or Victory to Bengal.

The Awami League governed from 2009 until student protests toppled it in 2024, leaving hundreds dead by security forces.

Despite enduring severe repression themselves, the BNP, elected in February, has arbitrarily jailed hundreds of Awami League members, mostly without charge, and rolled back interim human rights safeguards.
