... or T- Suspense before they became, you know, Captain America and, and, uh, which was, like, 105 or, or Journey into Mystery became Thor.
Michael GraboisHOST
72:56
And so it keeps the legacy number of the original series.
Paul FrenchHOST

Mm-hmm.
Dan DoughertyGUEST
1:19
And one of the first books I always remember having was Fantastic Four 52.
Dan DoughertyGUEST
1:24
And even today, when I reread it today, the panels of that book, because I had read it so many times as a child, and also Journey into Mystery 109, which had Magneto, which I also recall getting there, take me right back to my childhood because I remember many of the panels, believe it or not, what they look like and the wording and what happens in the story.
Dan DoughertyGUEST

So I've stopped collecting over the years here and there, and I restart for a few years at a time, college years and some of my work period.
Dan DoughertyGUEST
1:54
But I've always restarted, and now that I'm retired, I'm reading and collecting pretty much nonstop.
Al MilgromGUEST
24:36
I know there was some...
Al MilgromGUEST
24:39
We had a title late in my career at Marvel called Journey into Mystery, which was reviving that old title that Thor first appeared in.
Al MilgromGUEST
24:47
And, uh, and it did not have Thor in it.
Al MilgromGUEST
24:50
It had, it had Odin and it had, uh, Sif and I had some of the other Asgardians, I think,

12 MINS LATER

Al MilgromGUEST
37:25
Marvel, no, they were subsisting.
Al MilgromGUEST
37:27
They published those titles.
Al MilgromGUEST
37:29
They had the monster magazines, Tales of Suspense, Strange Tales, Journey into Mystery, et cetera.
Al MilgromGUEST
37:37
And they were doing really...
Bob AlmondGUEST
10:58
His favorite run of Marvel Silver Age comics, bar none, was Stan and Jack's.
Bob AlmondGUEST
11:05
I guess you could say Vinny because they did so many together that that was his favorite favorite run on Journey to Mystery and Thor.
Bob AlmondGUEST
11:12
And he was also huge, huge mythology, Norse mythology kind of fan and knew that history, all that.
Bob AlmondGUEST
11:20
And he was putting together basically an amateur version of this, I believe, while he was in high school or college.
Andy VargasHOST
14:28
You're giving them
Mike DeStacyHOST
14:28
all away? I bought, what is it, Journey into Mystery? What the fuck? 102, which is Hela, Sif, and Baldur's first appearance.
Mike DeStacyHOST
14:40
Whoa, kudos.
Mike DeStacyHOST
14:41
Yeah.
DarylHOST
19:10
It has hit its stride by this point.
DarylHOST
19:13
We've gone through a mini event, which I think was four issues, three or four issues, which is called Journey into Mystery, really centered on the Stranger and the Watchers.
DarylHOST
19:25
So we already had that.
DarylHOST
19:28
Then we had a couple issues and then we're right into a seven part event in Quasar, which gets really grim.
Zach DeanHOST
42:52
i think
Charlotte FierroHOST
42:53
sure and i'll read it in french because well yeah translated yes um i think this is the like journey into mystery uh made loki's character good i guess i like there are good examples there are like some moments of fun stories that use like the old version of loki as a villain um But I definitely think that, like, Kid Loki from Gillan's Journey into Mystery was, like, a more interesting, like, whole character that, like, was very good and could lead his own series for 30-something issues, I think.
Charlotte FierroHOST
43:40
And the end of that book...
Charlotte FierroHOST
43:45
I mean, explicitly talks about the fact that, like...
Charlotte FierroHOST
44:01
Like, there is a tendency... to putting the tools back in the box and having them come back to what they once were and, like, the classic idea of what they are in Marvel and what they were, like, in the 60s or 70s or 80s.
Charlotte FierroHOST
44:15
And I think it's, like, kind of a miracle that...
Charlotte FierroHOST
44:21
Ewing continued on that trajectory and actually continued the story of of this version of Loki while continuing to evolve it further than what Gillen did like this has many common points with Gillen's Journey into Mystery but it's also a very different book with a very different version of Loki and I think.
Charlotte FierroHOST
44:51
And I won't talk that much about what comes next for the character, but I think I appreciate this series even more now in 2026.
