Josh Schmidt is a Tony Award nominee, um, musician, composer, and he has created this, um, soundsc- sound- soundscape and music that a single cellist is going to play on stage, and she will have sort of equal measure with four iterations of, of the artist's life, spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

And through that, um, interconnected artistry, her life, the life of this artist will, will be told

Marie, you're talking about environment.

And talk about the creative process of Maybe We'll Fly and why playwright Marie Koehler and the rest of the creative team found the audio presentation, the sound design, to truly be an essential part of telling the story of an artist like Mary Knoll through the seasons of her life.

I think that has to do with knowing Josh Schmidt, who is the composer and the sound designer, and if you've ever seen anything he's ever done or heard anything he's ever done, then you're like, "Oh, yes, this is how you actually need to tell a story." Um, I've done a few other, um, productions with him, and it just, it, it takes the storytelling to another level.

And so I, you know, I imagine that that's probably what Marie had in mind, um, and, you know, just making it as, uh, as m- infused with the arts as you possibly can.

Sure, for all the senses.

[laughs] I mean, everything that Josh wrote for the play is such a bop that I'm like, "Yeah," like I love hearing it, you know? Like I, I would be happy to just listen.

Composed by Tony Award nominee Josh Schmidt in collaboration with playwright Marie Kohler, and you've shared some of your creative process in, uh, getting to know the material of Maybe We'll Fly and getting to know artist Mary Knoll, and the sound design being an essential part of this.

What has the audience reaction been to the play so far?

She was doing things that women kind of weren't encouraged to do by speaking your mind.
