Josh Mulligan

So yeah, he might really benefit that system.

Matthew, if there was a vacancy in centre mid in the squads, I have to say I'd kind of hoped it would have been Josh Mulligan.

I think that his driving force in midfield is something that we could benefit from and we probably haven't had since, no McTominay in a way, but from a bit deeper, maybe since Armstrong started to break in at the Scotland team under Strachan.

It's been quite a rise for Montgomery here.

Well, not a great place to start, but I think there's good context around it because the last two games, you know, Kilmarnock ironically sort of did what we've been trying to do this season, which is they kind of switched between a kind of back four, it looked like at times, like that kind of 4-2, sort of 3-1 formation.

when they were attacking but then when they were defending they sort of morphed around into this kind of sort of fact like what Hibs were essentially playing which was kind of three at the back a sort of you know Hibs had a deeper midfielder in Devaney we obviously had Wright and Mulligan in we had Souto and Cleggie up top as a two and then obviously we had Passlack in And Mayer, I know obviously when we started off, we had Megwa on this right-hand side and he went off very quickly and actually pulled a clip from the first four minutes of the game where we actually had a really nice bit of play out on the right-hand side.

But he obviously came off and we had to switch things around.

But do you know the way Kilmarnock... stopped us really very simply as the big man up top for them, John Jules, he sat on Devaney basically and picked them up in that whole midfield row and he just followed them everywhere he went.

And if you kind of spread it out to look like a back four...

And this is where I think we've started to fall flat with Cleggie and Souto in these positions up top, and you push your full-backs on.

When Mulligan, and especially Wright, who I thought played probably too high and was really disconnected in the Kilmarnock game, I do think he was much better in the Aberdeen game.

I know it's difficult if you're not watching this, but at times there's almost five attacking players in the opposition half, which sounds great, but then there's often not anyone linking things in the middle.

A back three of Jason Kerr, Grant Hanley, and Jack Airdale.

Across the middle, Felix Passlack, Josh Mulligan, Miguel Checa, and Adam Maher, with Jamie McGrath, another former Aberdeen player, tucked in behind Boyle and Elding.

On the bench, it's Law, Newell, and Williams, Kleej, Cadden, and Suto, Reid, Devaney, and Owens.

That one enforced change for the Dons.

But at the moment, we've got players who probably didn't want to play for him.

You can see that with Josh Mulligan.

People who are actually beginning to look after their own career, if you like, and Scott Brown will fix that immediately in terms of getting the players back on side.

So we need somebody who's got a really solid profile in football.

Josh McPake's just starting to come into the picture now as well.

Even the center of the pitch, um, you know, I expect to see Lennon Miller, who's, you know, started, um, in Serie A the last few weeks, and Josh Mulligan potentially coming in as well.

And are they gonna be good enough to, you know, push the likes of your Gilmours and things all the way to potentially getting a starting berth? But I think when you look through the squad and, you know, you talk about Luke Graham, um, Steven Welsh, you talk about Calvin Miller, Josh McPake, and the, the two in the middle as well, potentially Mulligan and Miller- It's exciting times and hopefully they can come in and show just how good they are and run the existing group or the ones that remain from the existing group close.

But, you know, every time I watch Mulligan I'm impressed.

Mayer's probably, if you're playing a sort of wing-back, I would suggest Mayer and Paslak have the wing-back positions probably locked down as it stands.

Mulligan's probably the first name on the team sheet.

Kerr's played every minute, I think.

So again, he's probably in there.

That's not far to play it in there.

Would it be Callum Wright or like a low boil?

Well, I'm picturing we play a 4-2-3-1, so it would be Mulligan and whoever in the midfield and then the front three of right, Clee Jay on the right.

McGrath through and behind.

The, the, the way they played in between the lines, you know, their five-three-two got in between counties four-two-three-one.

One touch football from Mulligan and Wright in the middle of the park, and when they pulled the Ross County fullbacks out, there were midfield players running behind.

Souto and Kljebić were excellent down the middle.

I was torn between Josh Mulligan and Elliot Ward, but I went Josh Mulligan.

Ooh.

Okay.

Josh Mulligan is 100% my option that could switch out with Leonard Miller.

I'd say he's almost like my 26th man.

Between the two of them, there's not a huge amount.

I think he's got quality.

We've seen it in a Scotland shot in very limited sort of opportunities he's had.

But I think now with some of the more experienced players potentially dropping out of the squad, if Kenny McLean's not going to be involved, for example, a perfect opportunity to get someone with the quality of Alan Miller in there because I think he's going to be a... a Scotland international for a long time to come and he's got quality he's going off to the squad now and look he's not going to come in and be a nailed on starter there's not that pressure on him because he does have what is probably our strongest area of the park in front of him with the quality of Ferguson Christy Gilbert and begin to cover those areas for me but yeah him or Josh Mulligan I would be happy as Josh Mulligan's a player that continues just impress me every time I watch him play even if Hibs aren't doing that well I think Josh Mulligan still has a decent game in my opinion so happy with either of them

And Josh Mulligan, if I go back to my worries with Patterson and Hickey, in previous times, he has played
