you oh perfect i'm happy it was this one although i still think the self title is my first my favorite i don't know it goes back and forth between the self-titled and rated r actually depends on the day um so yeah because they're out in the desert right um they do things like we we used to do like parties in the woods because we're from maine we all you know meet in the woods and bring beers in allegedly and have fun in high school in the desert it's a desert party so they bring generators and they play music and that's how these bands were practicing and instead of a party in a backyard you're playing in the fucking desert with generators i think that's really cool it would have been cool to see um but according to what i read might have been in korean magazine drink J-Ho, also known as Josh Homme, said that this song came to him because he was walking away from a party, like stumbling or whatever, and he's just like naming in his head, like, what did I do tonight? Nicotine, Valium, Alcohol, Ecstasy, Alcohol.

And then that became like...

the lyrics for the opening track of the song yeah and it makes sense right because like i don't i wasn't that crazy but i remember being like fuck two three beers i definitely had a shot of tequila so it's kind of just like reflecting on how fucked up am i can i like drive no can i walk home probably yes yeah they

And like I said, there's this, you know, just like... just a sense of community about this album and this sense of you know like just like friendships that have been built up over you know decades of being on the road and crossing paths and whatever and playing this kind of music that i just found like very you know heartening

yeah i mean i was saying earlier about how i think master of the best of all sorts things i do think one of the things they are maybe the best app in all of metal is the guest spot like not just the people they pick but the way they deploy them they've been doing it the whole way through their career they've just got some of the coolest and most inventive ones and this record being, like, they're calling everyone in the phone book, just all the biggest names, all the best people coming in at once to do, you know, in some cases they're quite major contributions, you know, we talked about Josh Homme earlier, or Giza Butler, I mean, for basically a full minute of the record, you are just listening to Giza Butler, like, there's no mastodon there whatsoever, but... you know what else do you want but just that variety of like sound and their creative ways of using them and you know neil fallon like you say having maybe well certainly the most well-known guest spot on any master on record and it being so furious and aggressive and just getting him to do the opposite of that and go like beyond like more neil fallon than neil fallon like more neil fallon than he is even in clutch it's like that sort of space mountain guru, or whatever he does, basically just spoken word, becomes a storyteller, reads a mantra out to the audience.

It's one of those things where if you don't know who this is, you can imagine someone hearing that and going, what the fuck is this at the end of my Mastodon record? This sounds a bit weird.

But so characterful and so much fun, and for all the reasons you said, in the context of where this record's come from, just hearing all these familiar voices, you know, it's You said it perfectly.
