Nationwide freakout over AI has started.

Representative Josh Gottheimer was watching his daughter's field hockey game in northern New Jersey on Thursday when two parents approached him to air their concerns about artificial intelligence and asked, what is going on? Such questions from other ordinary people and lawmakers came again and again this past week to the New Jersey Democrat, who has introduced bills to increase oversight of the technology.

They were spurred by a departing anthropic researcher's dire warning in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that rogue AI systems could destroy civilization.

To Gottheimer, former Microsoft executive who co-chairs a House AI commission, they signaled that stress about AI ending humanity has had just crossed the threshold.

I've been praised by presidents of both parties, including Joe Biden and Donald Trump, because I work to get things done.

My best friend in Congress is a Democrat, Josh Gottheimer.

And we work tirelessly on issues that matter to our constituents and the American people, including AI, where we are leading on Stop Rogue AI Agents Act and the CHAT Act to protect children and require age verification.

And it's funny, Hakeem Jeffries brought up the housing bill.

33 Democrats voted for it.

sponsored by a Republican, Virginia Fox, who was notorious in the House education hearings, the witch hunt against universities, and also the Democratic representative, Josh Gottheimer, who introduced the bill.

And the amazing thing is that it's extraordinary that this is a bill which basically says U.S. universities or students in U.S. universities effectively are not allowed to boycott a foreign state.

And that's a real concern, and it's a concern that we should have about who become the leaders of the party and which members dominate the process, and whether you have leaders as well who can pull all the disparate factions of the party together.

I mean, we had incumbent members of the House including Josh Gottheimer, Jared Moskowitz, go after the democratic socialists and the left.

Let's put aside whether their critiques are accurate or not.

If you have a majority of 4, 5, 6, 8, or 10, you're going to need discipline.

The ratio is usually something like, I think, 5 to 0.

So 5 Piker, 0 Rogers for Josh Gottheimer.

It was 2-0 for Hurley Sculpin.

Then it was maybe 2 to 1 for Brad Sherman.
