Right.
5:52
So obviously it's, it's, it, you know, we're, we're... you know, we can't, we, we can't just do without the clergy or kind of ignore the clergy or, or push them out or aside or anything like that.
6:02
So, and that's not really [laughs] a possibility that's on the table.
6:05
What, what we can do though is not simply- Wait for the clergy to come up, come along and, and s- and, and sort of s- sort everything out because actually that isn't always how things have been in the church.
6:18
And it certainly is particularly awkward at the moment because of this, um, well, immediately after the council, a very exaggerated view of, uh, o- o- obedience among the clergy.
6:30
Um, and indeed among the laity, but it was easier for the [laughs] laity to kind of get over that, um, in the c- in the moment of crisis.
6:37
Um, and even today, you know, maybe people have less respect for bishops than they did in 1969, but the bishop still has the power to make your life impossible if you're a priest.

12 MINS LATER

Tell us about that.

This is a, an intimate occasion, the annual general meeting of the Latin Mass Society, and only members are allowed to, are, are, present in this room, will be able to ask questions at the end.
0:11
Uh, nevertheless, uh, why waste an opportunity to, um [laughs], um, to, to get yet another of my talks onto...
0:18
Well, it, it's just an opportunity for me to address a wider audience.
0:22
So this is, uh, this is gonna be recorded, unlike everything else that's happened today.
0:26
So I'd like to welcome everyone to our annual general meeting, and, uh, thank you for coming to what, for, uh, many of you, perhaps is a, an unfamiliar venue.
0:38
I hope you think the trip was worthwhile.
