There are stories about that.

Anyway, the Rebbe brings in a fascinating, some fascinating ideas from the Rogatchover Gaon about this conversation.
S
18:46speaker_0HOST
The Rogatchover has a very interesting analysis about whether or not when there is an obli- [laughs] certain types of obligations for mitzvahs, is the obligation that there should be an outcome, that you should have a finished product, or is the obligation the doer of the mitzvah and the process of doing it? And I don't want to get you too lost, but in yeshiva when they taught us this, they told us the two words that are used to describe the different types, which is actually related to ideas of Chaim Brisker as well, which I don't wanna lose you on too much, but it's analysis of whether you're not or not you look at the gavra, the person doing it, and the process of doing it, or the cheftza, the finished product.

So the Rogatchover Gaon looks at this idea of the building of the ark and he says, "Was the objective of... that at the end there should be an ark, or was the objective the mitzvah of, 'Aseh lekha?' Is that an, uh, instruction, have a finished ark by the end of it, or is it the process of undertaking the construction of the ark?" And it seems very clear from Rashi that the process of building the ark, and the time it would take, is the instruction that God gave him, "Make it." God tells him, "Aseh lekha," make an ark, not because necessarily there should be a fin- a finished product.
S

That is an aspect of the building of the ark, but more so, more importantly, by you building it and taking 120 years over it, people will see and be inspired to repent hopefully.

And that is why Rashi frames his key point around this theme, uh, by, by, by taking this approach.
Chelek 29, Chag HaSukkos - Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Wolberg

Id derteich empnimiyus fun Sukkah geirim az iz ol vareim poter al pi halachah, kan au zivvei su shina beSukkah.

So the Rebbe is saying based on this vort of Rogatchover, the Nekudas Hadvorim is that when a person doesn't sleep in the Sukkah, he's not missing in the mitzvah of Sukkah.
Y
31:44Yaakov Moshe WolbergHOST
The, the chiyuv of sleeping in the Sukkah is not there's a mitzvah to sleep in the Sukkah.
Y
31:47Yaakov Moshe WolbergHOST
There's an issur to sleep outside the Sukkah.
Y
33:43Yaakov Moshe WolbergHOST
That's lichure what we learned until now.
Y
33:47Yaakov Moshe WolbergHOST
Seif heh.
Y
33:48Yaakov Moshe WolbergHOST
So here the Rebbe is gonna ask the lichure, this bier of the, of the Rogatchover we mentioned before, lichure doesn't shtim with the Alter Rebbe.
Y
33:55Yaakov Moshe WolbergHOST
Lichure the Rogatchover is saying in Da'as Harambam that there's no chiyuv of shin-- the chiyuv of shin is only there's an issur to sleep outside the Sukkah, but not that there is a mitzvah chiyuvis of sleeping in the Sukkah.

So maybe we could say like the going of Rogachev.
Y
15:34Yosef KantorGUEST
Rogachev again says, that there's a great difference between the mitzvah of eating in the Sukkah and the mitzvah of sleeping in the sukkah.
Y
15:43Yosef KantorGUEST
Eating, the mitzvah of eating in the sukkah, you're fulfilling the mitzvah of sukkah when you do that.
Y
15:48Yosef KantorGUEST
When it comes to sleeping in the sukkah, there's no mitzvah to sleep in the sukkah.
