Okay, well, we are going to be deep diving back to the future.

We are in the Joseon era still.

So to start off, we're going all the way back to

the beginning of Joseon.

That's right.

So part of the appeal of Seokpajeong Seoul Museum is simply where it is.

The museum sits right beside Seokpajeong, which is a villa of the Heungsung Daewongun, the regent and father of King Gojong of the late Joseon period.

So anyone familiar with Korean history knows Heungsung Daewongun.

That's 100% correct.

This would have been very scandalous.

This is the first hundred years of the Chosun kingdom when the Confucian aristocrats, the nobles, and of course the royals too, were really trying to confirm that they have the position to run this new kingdom.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

They're able to do it.

It's in the crossbeams.

The crossbeam, the upper part of the house.

So in Chosun era homes, traditionally, these crossbeams are also where the Songju was said to reside, the folk spirit of the living room.

So it oversees the home.

That's when the language, culture, and social rules were established that still pretty much govern today.

The last royal dynasty was the Joseon Dynasty.

I'm going to be talking about that a lot more when we get to books.

For now, just know that era lasted for more than five centuries, from 1392 until 1910.
